Small Hopi Polychrome Seed Jar by Nyla Sahmie updated

This charming seed jar is the work of Hopi-Tewa master potter Nyla Sahmie. Nyla comes from a long line of traditional potters—she is the great-great-granddaughter of Nampeyo (1856-1942), the great-granddaughter of Annie Healing Nampeyo, the granddaughter of Rachel Namingha Nampeyo, and the daughter of Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo. This classic example of Sikyatki Revival pottery, an art movement started by Nampeyo 150 years ago, features two abstract birds flying around the seed jar's small opening. The seed jar measures 3" height and 4 1/2" diameter, and was fired in April 2023.
