Two Contemporary Hopi Flat Dolls
These two contemporary Hopi flat dolls or cradle dolls are traditionally-carved from cottonwood root and depict two popular kachinas, Masao and Hemis Mana. They are called cradle dolls because this style of doll is traditionally gifted to infants at Hopi. Both dolls have nicely-detailed painting on their fronts and backs. Complimentary shipping is included. The Hemis Mana doll on the right has sold and is unavailable.
The doll on the left is Masao, the Earth God. It measures 8" height and is in excellent, original condition. The doll is unsigned.
The doll on the right is Hemis Mana, also known as Yellow Corn Maiden. She is Hemis Kachina's dance partner at Home Dance, the conclusion of the kachina dance ceremony cycle. The doll is signed by the carver, Logan Honanie, and measures 7 1/2" height. Please note that this doll has sold.
