Hopi Deer Kachina by Pat Lanza, c.1990

A nice example of traditional kachina doll carving, this piece depicts the deer kachina with great details in the dancing posture and ceremonial regalia. It is a highly expressive depiction of the kachinas as they appear in Hopi. The carver Pat Lanza was a relative of John Lanza, a well-respected elder at Oraibi and an informant for several scholars who have written about Hopi. This piece measures 12 1/2" high by 5 3/4" wide. Signed "Pat Lanza, Old Oraibi." Excellent condition. Highly recommended to any collector of kachina dolls.
