Hopi-Navajo Open Bowl by Nathan Begaye

This is an open bowl by Hopi-Navajo potter Nathan Begaye. The shape is that of an ancient Mimbres food bowl—thinly-molded and deep. Nathan has used his own original prehistoric-inspired design to decorate both the inside and the outside of the bowl. He also used ancient geometric designs from Kayenta on this piece, as opposed to the Sikyatki designs he frequently used. The bowl measures 4" height and 9" diameter, and is in excellent original condition. It is unsigned and has no date, but is accompanied by a letter of attribution. Nathan Begaye (1958-2010) was an incredibly innovative potter, drawing inspiration from both the modern world and his Hopi and Navajo heritage.
