Zia Polychrome Bird Jar by Sofia Medina new
This superb example of traditional Pueblo pottery is the work of Zia Pueblo master potter Sofia Pino Medina (1932-2010). Sofia learned pottery-making from her husband's grandmother, Trinidad Medina (1883-1964), who was also an extremely skilled potter. Sofia's daughter Lois (1959- ) is also a gifted traditional potter. This jar is signed on the side of the jar rather than the bottom. The jar is decorated with a classic Zia bird design with floral elements. The shape of the jar is well-molded and the design fits it well. The jar measures 8 1/2" height and 11" diameter, and is in excellent condition.
