Hopi Corn Maiden Figure by Laguna Potter Michael Kanteena new
This charming Hopi corn maiden is signed "M. Kanteena Laguna, NM," indicating it is the work of Laguna master potter Michael Kanteena (1959- ). In this homage to Hopi pottery, Kanteena depicts a woman with the traditional butterfly whorls of a young Hopi woman, sitting on top of a pot with Sikyatki Revival designs, and holding a bowl with more Sikyatki Revival designs. Kanteena's rendering of these designs incorporates familiar abstract elements depicting corn and birds. The corn maiden even has three little clay corn cobs for her bowl. The figure measures 7 1/2" height and 3 1/2" width, and is in original condition.
