Large Zia Polychrome Jar, c.1890-1900
This large Zia polychrome jar dates to about the 1890s and has a bold, crisp design. The jar has a big presence, measuring 9" height and 11" diameter. An appealing rainbow design with floral elements stretches across the jar. The jar has a secondary red band between the design and the base, indicative of its age. Although unsigned, the jar's excellent craftsmanship suggests it is the work of mature master potter. The jar has no chips or repairs and is in overall excellent condition with some ethnographic wear. Old jars in good condition like this one are becoming harder to find, and it would be a superb addition to any collection of historic Pueblo pottery.
