Hopi Black and White on Red Jar by Nampeyo, c.1910 new
This classic example of Nampeyo's polychrome redware pottery dates to about 1910. The jar's watery white pigment, orange red slip, and original abstract eagle tail design are all indicative of this period of Nampeyo's career. The design on the jar is classic Sikyatki Revival, with elements from the ancient world, including a checkerboard design reminiscent of the ancient Hopi village of Jeddito. The jar measures 5 1/2" height and 5" diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
