Hopi Antelope Kachina Doll, c.1960
This traditionally-carved Hopi kachina doll dates to about 1960. The doll depicts the antelope kachina, who is generally thought to represent a prayer for the abundance of antelope. This example holds two sticks in his hands to represent the legs of the antelope, which is how he appears in the dances. He has nice details indicative of his age, including a carved Douglas fir wreath around his neck, and a felt sash. The doll measures 12 1/2 height and is in good condition. This doll is designed to be displayed by hanging on a wall.
