Hopi Hoho Mana Kachina Doll, c.1960s
This Hopi kachina doll dates to the 1960s, and depicts Hoho Mana, the Zuni Kachina Maiden. She is easily identifiable by her woman’s black dress, black mask with white cog wheel-like eyes and red tab ears, and turkey feathers on top of her head. Hoho Mana usually appears alongside Sio Hemis in the Hopi dances. This example measures 10 ¼” height and is in good condition. The doll is traditionally-carved from cottonwood root, and is mounted on a custom stand, but could easily be removed for hanging on a wall.
