Hopi Polychrome Seed Jar by Nampeyo, c.1910

Nampeyo (1856-1942) made this yellowware seed jar around 1910. The jar is a classic example of her Sikyatki Revival art movement, where she was taking inspiration for forms and designs from pottery she had seen from the ancient Hopi village of Sikyatki. In particular, the floating elements, swirls, and eagle tail feathers on this jar reference earlier designs from Sikyatki. The jar measures 4 ½” height and 8 ½” diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
