Hopi Polychrome Vase by Rachel Sahmie new

This is a polychrome vase by Rachel Sahmie (1956- ), a direct descendent of Nampeyo. The vase is a classic example of the Sikyatki Revival art movement, with a big Sikyatki swirl at the center of the design and eagle tail feathers dropping down on either side. The Sikyatki Revival was started by Nampeyo, Rachel’s great-great-grandmother, in the 1890s, when she began creating forms and designs inspired by examples she was shown from the ancient Hopi village of Sikyatki. The vase measures 12” height and 7” diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
