Hopi Seed Jar with Migration Design by Vernida Polacca Nampeyo
Hopi master potter Vernida Polacca Nampeyo (1955- ) made this white-slipped migration jar in June 2022. Vernida is the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo and the granddaughter of Fannie, Nampeyo's most prolific and skilled potting daughter. Fannie taught Vernida pottery-making. For decades, Vernida made traditional Hopi pottery the way Fannie taught her, and she is well-known for precisely executing family designs, particularly the migration. This fine migration example of her work decorates a well-molded jar. Vernida utilized her new whiter slip on this jar, and it fired well. The jar measures 4" height and 5 1/2" diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
