Contemporary Hopi Leap Frog Seed Jar by Mark Tahbo new
Hopi-Tewa master potter Mark Tahbo (1958-2017) made this "Leap Frog" seed jar in 2013. From First Mesa, Mark Tahbo was a member of the Tobacco Clan, and the great-grandson of Grace Chapella. Mark began making pottery in 1978 and won many awards. This jar is traditionally-molded, painted, and pit-fired. The four frogs frame the mouth of the seed jar. Two of the frogs have a realistic, textured design, one is decorated with classic Hopi rainclouds, and one has a design mimicking water. The frogs are clearly leaping over each other, which is the effect Mark wanted to create. The jar measures 3 1/4" height and 5" diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
