Hopi Black and White on Red Lidded Jar by Zella Cheeda

This Hopi black and white on red lidded jar by Zella Cheeda is signed on the bottom with her hallmark, an antelope. Also known as Antelope Woman, Zella Cheeda (1901-1997) is famous for perfecting black and white on red Hopi pottery. Zella was from the Hopi village of Sichomovi on First Mesa, and frequently painted geometric and animal figures like the one on this jar. The jar measures 10” height and 8” diameter, and is in excellent condition with a small chip repair on the lid.
