Two Pairs of Hopi Silver Overlay Earrings, c.1980s updated
These two sets of traditional Hopi earrings exemplify Hopi silver overlay and show excellent workmanship.
The pair on the left dates to 1988 and has the hallmark of Honani Crafts, a shop at Winslow crossroads that employed several Hopi silversmiths. The earrings measure 1 ½” height, not including the hooks.
The pair on the right dates to the 1980s and has both the Hopi Arts and Crafts Guild tawa hallmark and the bear claw hallmark belonging to Willis Humeyestewa (1953- ). Willis learned silversmithing at the guild, and is Bear Clan from the village of Mishongnovi. He began doing silver work in 1983. The earrings measure 1 ¼” height, not including the hooks.
