Two Hopi Route 66 Kachina Dolls, Koshare and Sotuknangu
These two Hopi Route 66-era kachina dolls are traditionally-carved from cottonwood root. Complimentary shipping is included. Please note the doll on the left has sold.
The doll on the left depicts a koshare (clown) kachina and dates to the 1970s. The doll is signed "G. Pooley" for George Pooley (1951-2009), a kachina carver from Hotevilla on Third Mesa who is known for carving these Route 66-style dolls. The doll measures 7 1/4" height and 2 1/4" width, and is in excellent, original condition with his feathers intact. Please note this doll has sold.
The doll on the right is a depiction of the Hopi deity Sotuknangu, who is considered the most powerful of all the deities. The doll measures 7" height and 3" width, and dates to the 1940s.
