Single Strand Fetish Necklace with Birds, c.1950s new
This is a single strand fetish necklace from about the 1950s. 24 hand-carved birds are interspersed between traditional Santo Domingo white clam shell heishe. The birds are carved from spiny oyster shell, Catlinite, serpentine, turquoise, jet, and shell. All birds are intact except for one, which has a small chip off its tail. The carvings are detailed, with hand-painted eyes and feathers in their design, however, it is difficult to say if the carver was from Zuni or Santo Domingo Pueblo. The necklace measures 27" end-to-end. Complimentary shipping included.
