Hopi Seed Jar by Nyla Sahmie

This is a Hopi seed jar by Hopi master potter Nyla Sahmie. Nyla is the great-great-granddaughter of Nampeyo (1856-1942) and is known for creating quality pottery, although she is not quite as prolific as her sister Rachel Sahmie.

On this jar, Nyla has drawn a variation of the Nampeyo family bat wing or bear claw design, decorating it with corn designs. The jar measures 3 1/2" height and 6 1/2" diameter and was fired traditionally in February 2021. An excellent example of Nampeyo family pottery, signed by the artist. Includes complimentary shipping.
