Hopi-Navajo Polychrome Jar by Nathan Begaye

This is a red-slipped polychrome jar with a white-slipped rim by the Hopi-Navajo master potter Nathan Begaye (1958-2010). Here, Nathan is working in bold colors with designs inspired by the prehistoric world. The overall structure of the white outlined stepped design is influenced by earlier Kayenta designs. The jar measures 6 1/2" height and 8" diameter, and is in excellent original condition. It is clearly signed "Nathan B Hopi Navajo 9-23-87," and comes from the collection of a Santa Fe patron of Nathan's, who often allowed him to trade pottery for housing. The jar has a big presence!
