Hopi Squash Rattle by Rachel Sahmie

This clay squash-shaped pottery rattle was fired by Rachel Sahmie in October 2020. It is shaped like a squash and functions as a rattle. The rattle measures 3" height and 4 1/2" diameter, and is traditionally molded and fired. Rachel Sahmie is a fifth generation master potter at First Mesa, and is the great-great-granddaughter of Nampeyo (1856-1942), the matriarch of Hopi pottery.
