Black and White on Orange Open Bowl by Nampeyo, c.1895-1900
Nampeyo perfected the red slip between 1895 and 1905. The orange slip here was used during that period. The swirled bird design in the middle of the bowl is an early motif for her, as is the design at the top of four clouds consisting of three stacked squares. This is an excellent example of her classic Sikyatki Revival style. Shows some craquelure, but no real use. Measures 6.25 inches diameter by 2 inches height. Excellent condition. Comes with a letter of attribution and a custom stand.
