Early Kachina Open Bowl by Nampeyo, c. 1892-95 updated

After her early traditional scuffy Polacca slip, Nampeyo developed a smoother whiter slip, seen here on this large Kachina bowl from the 1890s. The kachina face reads both ways up and down. The bowl features a hanging lug, another early sign as well as four sets of raindrops along the rim. In original condition, with some minor scuffing from age, and measuring 10" in diameter.
