Contemporary Hopi Seed Jar by Rachel Sahmie
This masterful seed jar by traditional Hopi potter Rachel Sahmie was fired 11/10/2017. This piece is hand coiled and pit fired traditionally. Its form, with the small opening is particularly graceful and complete. The design is a highly original composition inspired by various elements of Hopi art history. It is clearly signed on the bottom with Rachel's signature "Nampeyo Koo Loo." This piece measures 8" height and 10 1/2" diameter. Rachel is a fifth generation master potter and the great-great granddaughter of Nampeyo (1856-1942), the matriarch of modern Hopi pottery. This is an excellent example of her work and a highly recommended addition to any collection.
