Hopi Polacca Open Bowl by Nampeyo, c. 1890

This Hopi Polacca open bowl, attributed to Nampeyo and dating to circa 1890, is a refined example of her early mastery during the transitional period preceding the full Sikyatki Revival. The composition features a bold avian form that sweeps dynamically across the interior, paired with a structured band of kiva step motifs along above. Painted in earthy red and deep brown over a warm, stone-polished slip. This important early work illustrates the emergence of Nampeyo’s iconic style that would come to define Hopi pottery in the decades that followed.

This excellent bowl measures1 ¾” in height by 8 ½” in diameter.
