Hopi Polychrome Jar by Nampeyo, c.1915 new
An excellent example of Nampeyo's Sikyatki Revival, this elegant jar is decorated with four panels of an abstract bird with tailfeathers on the left, wings below and the head with eye and beak to the bottom right. Nampeyo personally revived the Sikyatki style in 1895, inspired by the excavations of the Sikyatki site. This piece measures 5 1/4" in diameter by 3 1/2" high. It is traditionally fired and is in excellent original condition. A nice piece by a Native American master artist who first introduced abstraction into Modern Art.
