Masterpiece Acoma Parrot Jar by Joseph Cerno Jr. new

A masterful example of contemporary Acoma pottery, this stunning water jar is the work of Jospeh Cerno Jr., a second-generation master ceramicist and son of the famed husband-wife potting duo Joesph and Barbara Cerno. Showing exceptional skill in its creation, this piece has remarkably thin walls decorated with gorgeous, flowing polychrome designs in rich red, orange and black on a clean white slip. Traditionally made and kiln fired, this piece incorporates all-natural hand-ground Acoma clay slips and vegetal pigment. It shows the artist’s elevation of traditional pottery to a contemporary fine art form. An exceptionally large jar, this piece measures 14 ½” high by 15” in diameter. It has a large presence and makes a definitive statement about the living tradition of pottery making in New Mexico. Highly recommended.
