Early Migration Jar by Nampeyo, c.1910new
An elegant early rendition of Nampeyo's iconic migration motif, this polychrome seed jar is an excellent example of Nampeyo's creativity in her mature period. The design shows early experimentation with several recognizable elements which later became famous hallmarks of Nampeyo and her many artist descendants. The seed jar is well made in a form revived by Nampeyo in 1895 from ancient examples and associated with her Sikyatki Revival art movement. This jar is a real beauty!
This piece measures 8 3/4" in diameter by 5" high. It comes from the collection of an old trading post in Kansas and includes an old inventory label attributing the piece to Nampeyo. The label also reads "not for sale," and comes from the dealer's personal collection.
Fortunately for the discerning collector, this piece is now making its market debut after many years in private hands. An excellent jar by a great Native American artist, this superb creation is highly recommended.
