Hopi Red Ware Open Bowl by Nampeyo, c.1910new
An excellent ceramic by Nampeyo, this black and white on red bowl features a striking abstract bird design in the artist's signature Sikyatki Revival style. This piece dates c.1910, Nampeyo's mature period. The design shows a bird design broken up into abstract panels. Nampeyo's style precedes cubism and other abstract trends which would define Modernism in the following decades. This piece incorporates several of Nampeyo's hallmarks including the raindrops on its rim and a hanging lug, for vertical display.
The piece measures 7 1/2" in diameter by 2" high and is in excellent condition. A highly recommended art work by a significant Native American Modernist.
