San Ildefonso Black-on-Black Lighter by Blue Corn

An interesting piece of Pueblo folk art, this is a classic mid-century lighter with a traditional black-on-black ceramic base custom made by San Ildefonso master potter Blue Corn (1921 - 1999). This item combines a utilitarian purpose with fine ceramic artwork, recalling the Harvey Company period of elaborate smoking accoutrements. This piece measures 3 1/4" high by 3" in diameter. The pottery is traditionally fired and is in excellent original condition with the artist's signature incised in the clay. The lighter hardware can be restored to usable condition. An excellent addition to any collection of San Ildefonso blackware.
