Two Polychrome Hopi Jars by Nyla Sahmie
Two traditional Hopi jars by master potter Nyla Sahmie. Nyla is a fifth-generation ceramic artist and a direct descendant of Nampeyo (1858-1942). She is the only daughter of Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo who is still potting.
On the left, a tall seed jar with an attractive abstract design and a red slipped base. Measures 5 1/2" in diameter by 4" high.
On the right, a miniature seed jar with an extended neck, decorated with the iconic migration design, a pattern revived by Nampeyo from pre-colonial pottery.
Both pieces were traditionally fired outdoors in May 2024. Signed by the artist.
