Two Small Hopi Jars by Nyla Sahmie
Two traditional Hopi jars by master potter Nyla Sahmie. Nyla is a fifth-generation ceramic artist and a direct descendant of Nampeyo (1858-1942). She is the only daughter of Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo who is still potting.
On the left, a small seed jar with the iconic migration design, a pattern revived by Nampeyo from pre-colonial pottery and passed down through the generations in the artist's family. Measures 4 1/4" in diameter by 2 3/4" high.
On the right, a small seed jar with an intricate abstract design inspired by many generations of Sikyatki Revival artwork. Measures 4" in diameter by 3" high.
Both pieces were traditionally fired outdoors in May 2024. Signed by the artist.
