Hopi Butterfly Jar by Rachel Sahmie

An exceptional piece by the Hopi master potter Rachel Sahmie, this elegant seed jar features iconic butterfly designs inspired by the pre-colonial Sikyatki culture. This jar features a graceful seed jar form and an elongated neck. It is signed by the artist with an early-career signature that she stopped using on her later work. This piece measures 7" high by 10 1/2" in diameter and is in excellent original condition. Rachel was a fifth-generation Hopi master potter and a direct matrilineal descendant of Nampeyo. An excellent addition to any collection of Pueblo matriarchs.
