Hopi Bowl by Jean Sahmie, c.1995

An excellent example of traditional Hopi pottery by master-potter Jean Sahmie, this small bowl is decorated with intricate designs reminiscent of pottery shards on the Hopi mesas. Is is a great example of the Sikyatki Revival art movement founded by the artist's matrilineal ancestor Nampeyo (1858-1942). It measures 3" high by 4 1/2" in diameter and is signed by the artist with her corn stalk insignia. An affordable piece by a contemporary master potter.
