Early Revival Bowl by Nampeyo, c.1885 new
An exceptional opportunity for the discerning collector, this bowl represents the early transitional work of the great Hopi-Tewa potter Nampeyo (1858-1942). This piece combines the early Polacca slip - used by Nampeyo in her younger years - with a striking early Sikyatki Revival design. The spiral design became one of Nampeyo's most recognizable motifs. The laddered black and white feathers below the spiral create a sophisticated optical illusion.
A deep bowl, this piece measures 8" in diameter by 3 1/2" high. It is in excellent original condition. From a distinguished Texas collection. A rare piece for serious collectors of Nampeyo's work. Highly recommended.
