Early Nampeyo Yellow Ware Canteen with Butterfly Maidennew

This old Hopi canteen by Nampeyo dates around 1900 and shows the remains of an old Fred Harvey Label: “From the Hopi Villages” which was commonly used on Nampeyo’s ceramics. The polychrome design features Nampeyo’s classic drawing of the Butterfly Maiden, “Pahlikmana.” The canteen measures 5" x 5".

The canteen has some light chipping around the spout, but is otherwise in excellent, original condition without repair or restoration. Overall, the canteen is well fired with pleasing ivory to orange hues.

An old braided curtain cord accompanies the piece. Nice example of a classic Nampeyo ceramic.

P4785 -- $3200
