Hopi Seed Jar by Nampeyo, c.1910 new

An iconic example of the mature work of Nampeyo (1858-1942), this seed jar exhibits a striking abstract design on the classic discus-shaped seed jar form. The design is an exceptional example of the expressive, original designs that turned Nampeyo into the best-known Native American artist of her era. The abstract symbolism of Nampeyo's Sikyatki revival was a major influence on the emergence of modernism in America. The seed jar form is also a form revived by Nampeyo from pre-colonial Hopi examples. This piece measures 3 1/2" high by 8 1/2" in diameter. A great piece by a Native American master artist at a great price. Highly recommended.
