Hopi Two-Color Seed Jar by Rachel Sahmie

An excellent example of contemporary Hopi pottery by the late master Rachel Sahmie (1956-2022), this seed jar uses a traditional disc-shaped form and an innovative two-colored design using white and red slips. The animal motif is inspired by designs used by the artist's ancestor Nampeyo (1858-1942), the matriarch of modern Pueblo pottery. As a fifth-generation matrilineal descendant of Nampeyo, Rachel continued a unique artistic legacy. This piece measures 6 3/4" in diameter by 3 3/4" high. It is signed "Nampeyo Koo Loo" by the artist. A fantastic piece by a significant artist at an affordable price.

DS3 -- $950
