Two Miniature Hopi Polychrome Canteens by Nampeyo, c.1910-1915 updated
These two miniature polychrome canteens by Hopi master potter Nampeyo (1856-1942) date to 1910-1915. Here, Nampeyo has miniaturized the traditional Hopi canteen form for the tourist art market.
The canteen on the left is decorated with a classic abstract bird seen on many of Nampeyo's pieces, and measures 4" height (from base to spout), 4" width, and 3" depth. This piece is in excellent condition with no repair.
The canteen on the right is decorated with another abstract bird that also appears on many of Nampeyo's pieces. The piece measures 3 3/4" height, 3" width, and 2 1/2" depth.
