Large San Ildefonso Polychrome Bowl, c.1895

This large San Ildefonso polychrome bowl is stone-polished, and dates to about 1895. The bowl is slipped all the way to the bottom, characteristic of the work of Martina Vigil. The designs—floral designs on the exterior and interior of the bowl—also suggest they are Florentino Montoya's painting. The bowl measures 4 1/2" height and 12 1/2" diameter, and has a big presence. This is a rare and large example of early San Ildefonso polychrome pottery.
