Large San Ildefonso Polychrome Jar, c.1900-1905

This exceptional, large San Ildefonso polychrome jar shows an unusual amount of red, showing influence from Acoma. The jar’s red rim, and secondary red line around its red base, dates it to around 1900. The jar’s impressive size—10 ¾” height and 13” diameter—gives it a big presence. The jar is new to the market, out of an estate in Kansas City, Missouri. It has an interesting floral design around the neck, with a very strong abstract design in the main panels around the body of the ceramic, which is highly original and open to interpretation. Overall, the jar has a fascinating design, and would be an excellent addition to any collection of pueblo pottery or Native American art of the Southwest. Excellent condition, no repair.
