Hopi First Prize Migration Jar by Fannie Nampeyo, c.1969

A masterpiece of modern Pueblo pottery, this large jar by Fannie Nampeyo won first prize at the 1969 Intertribal Indian Ceremonial. It is a large, expertly crafted ceramic featuring the iconic migration design, one of several recognizable designs developed by Fannie's mother Nampeyo (1856-1942). This piece is handmade from native Hopi clay and pit fired in the traditional fashion. It measures 8 1/2" high by 14" in diameter and is in excellent original condition. It is clearly signed by the artist. A significant achievement by an important Native American artist.
