Hopi Pottery Mudhead Rattle w/ Feathers, c. 1940

This Hopi Mudhead rattle dates to circa 1940 and is formed in a warm, mud-toned, reddish-brown clay with a black bandana and black markings on his face. The figure’s head retains five bird feathers with rattling beads inside. The Mudhead Kachina serves as a messenger and entertainer to the Hopi people and sustains a deep mythology and function within Hopi culture.

This piece measures 7 ¼” in length by 3” in diameter and is in original condition with some minor scuffs. Unsigned.
