Hopi Kachina by Walter Howato, c. 1990

This Hopi kachina doll by Walter Howato, c. 1990, is carved in a simplified form and painted in restrained polychrome with turquoise-toned horns and graphic facial elements. The clean geometry and minimal surface detail reflect a modern interpretation of traditional Hopi carving, while the upright format preserves the iconic presence of the kachina figure. This is a good example of Howato's early work.

This piece measures 10 ¼” high with a diameter of 3 ½”.

h060 -- $1500
