Hopi Migration Variant Jar by Fannie Nampeyo new

A masterful example of the fine pottery of Fannie Nampeyo (1900-1987), the youngest and most accomplished of Nampeyo's three potting daughters, known for her excellent molding and painting. This wide shouldered jar has an elegant outturned lip. It is decorated with a striking variant of the iconic migration design, one of many designs in her mother's repertoire that Fannie perfected. The black negative space in Fannie's variation is minimal, stylistic and modern in effect. The jar fired well, expressing the full tonality from ivory to burnt orange for which traditional Hopi yellow ware pottery is best known. Signed by the artist, this piece measures 6 1/4" height and 9 1/8" in diameter and is in excellent original condition. An exceptional piece of traditional Hopi pottery from a distinguished creative lineage.
