Zia Polychrome Olla, c.1875-1885

This masterful Zia polychrome olla is an excellent example of traditional Pueblo pottery from the early historic period. It is decorated with classic rainbird designs in Trios style which gracefully compliment the jar's elegant high-shouldered form. Coil-formed from native Zia clays with black basalt temper and pit fired traditionally. This piece measures 10" high by 12" in diameter. It comes with excellent provenance from the collection of artist Patricia Dobson, who included this piece in at least one Southwestern still life (see photo). An iconic piece of indigenous artwork in great condition. Highly recommended for the discerning collector.

CE1 -- $12000
