Hopi Polychrome Migration Jar by Vernida Polacca Nampeyo
Hopi master potter Vernida Polacca Nampeyo (1955- ) fired this polychrome migration jar in June 2023. Vernida is the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo and the granddaughter of Fannie, Nampeyo's most prolific and skilled potting daughter. Fannie taught Vernida pottery-making. For decades, Vernida has made traditional Hopi pottery the way Fannie taught her, and she is well-known for precisely executing family designs, particularly the migration. This fine migration example of her work decorates a well-molded, symmetrical jar. The jar fired well, with the tonality from ivory to burnt orange that Hopi yellowware pottery is prized for. The jar measures 3" height and 10" diameter.
