Large Hopi Polychrome Jar with Migration Design by Fannie Nampeyo
This large jar is a superb example of the work of Nampeyo's daughter, Fannie Nampeyo (1900-1987), and is signed on the bottom. Fannie Nampeyo was the most accomplished of Nampeyo’s three potting daughters, known for both her excellent molding and painting. The jar is decorated with the traditional migration design that was perfected by Nampeyo and passed down to her family members. This jar fired well, expressing the full tonality from ivory to burnt orange that traditional Hopi yellowware pottery is known for. The jar measures 7 1/2" height and 11" diameter, and is in excellent, original condition.
