Navajo Red Mesa Eyedazzler Rug, c.1915-1920
This colorful Navajo rug is a classic example of an historic weaving from Red Mesa Trading Post, near Teec Nos Pos, dating to about 1915 or 1920. The popular eyedazzler design is well-executed, with the signature Red Mesa orange dye, and blue, green, red, beige, and brown completing the palette. The rug has some minor wear and fading, more so on one side than the other (see photos), and measures 50 1/2" height and 36" width. This is an excellent example of a famous design commissioned by a famous trading post.
