Acoma Polychrome Olla, c.1930s

This Acoma polychrome jar dates to the 1930s. Although unsigned, the design and pigments on the jar suggest that it could be the early work of 20th century Acoma pottery matriarch Lucy Lewis. Lewis and other Acoma potters did not begin to regularly sign their work until the 1950s. The jar has some spalling, with one spall pop out professionally restored. Spalling is typical on Acoma jars from this ceramic period due to the type of clay that was used. Overall, the jar is in excellent condition, and measures 6 3/4" height and 8 3/8" diameter. This piece would be a superb addition to any collection of Acoma or Pueblo pottery. Complimentary shipping is included.
